WANDA Celebrates National Farmer’s Market Week with USDA

WASHINGTON, DC---WANDA will participate at the USDA Farmers Market in celebration of National Farmers Market Week on Friday, August 12th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM located outside the USDA Headquarters on the corner of Independence Avenue and 12th St, S.W., Washington, DC 20250.

“We are thrilled to share our educational programs and initiatives at the market with shoppers on August 12th in honor of National Farmers Market Week,” says Tambra Stevenson, CEO of WANDA. “Farmers’ markets are critically important access points of healthy fresh foods to our communities. And the Double Up Food Bucks helps shoppers living in communities impacted by food apartheid to maximize their dollars and health.”

When shoppers visit the WANDA booth, they can purchase the WANDA wear and books while also learning about their food policy recommendations like adopting a Food Bill of Rights submitted to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

The USDA Farmers Market, which launched in 1995, is expanding its weekly market offerings to include special guests, additional exhibitors, and family-friendly activities, including a petting zoo, a face painter, a recipe demonstration at our VegU tent, kids activities, and prizes at our Produce Pals tent, and more.

The Homecoming theme will offer a chance for marketgoers, vendors, and local organizations to gather and showcase the value of farmers' markets and community connections. If the WANDA team is interested in participating in the celebration as an exhibitor, we can offer you all a 10’x10’ tent at the market.

This week USDA Secretary Thomas J. VilsacK proclaimed August 7-13, 2022, as National Farmers Market Week in recognition of the role farmer's markets play in making more nutritious food available to local communities. Now in its 23rd year, National Farmers Market Week celebrates farmers' markets essential contributions to communities, food systems, and local economies. Now more than ever, farmers' markets serve as anchors across American communities, positively influencing community health and local economic vitality.
