What We Plant Today, Our Daughters Will Harvest Tomorrow

🌱 August is Black Philanthropy Month and at WANDA, we know that nothing grows without someone first believing enough to plant a seed.
For generations, Black women have practiced philanthropy without always calling it philanthropy. We passed the collection plate. Fed somebody else's child. Shared seeds and recipes. Organized mutual aid. Made a plate for the neighbor. Mentored the next generation. Gave our time when we didn't have money and shared our treasure when there wasn't much to spare.
We have always been gardeners of community.
Ten years ago, WANDA began with a seed: a belief that women and girls of African descent should have the opportunity, resources, and power to lead across food, nutrition, agriculture, and health. Since then, a village has helped us water that seed.
Because people gave their time, talent, treasure, and trust, WANDA has grown from an idea into a community cultivating Food Sheroes from Little WANDA to Mama WANDA to Auntie WANDA to Nana WANDA. Together, we've invested in scholars, nourished mothers and families, gathered around Sisterhood Supper tables, developed the next generation of food and nutrition leaders, and advocated for communities to have a greater voice in the food systems shaping their lives. But a garden cannot live on yesterday's rain.
This Black Philanthropy Month, we're asking our community to help us tend what we've planted and grow what comes next. On August 28, Give 8/28, the National Day of Black Giving, we invite you to sow a seed into WANDA's next decade. Your support helps us cultivate a future where Black women and girls aren't simply served by food, nutrition, agriculture, and health systems, they are leading, designing, researching, storytelling, farming, healing, owning, and transforming them.
🌱 Plant a seed.🌿 Nourish a woman or girl.🌻 Grow a Food Shero.🧺 Help a community harvest a healthier future. Because when we invest in the women who nourish communities, the whole garden grows.
This August, what will you help us grow? Join WANDA for Give 8/28 and help us nourish the next generation of healthy eaters, readers, and leaders.
